JANICE REID

Professor Reid has served on committees of the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Trust and Council (as Deputy Chair) of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, and from 1995 to 2001  as Chair of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

 

In 1978-9 she was a specialist adviser to the federal House of Representatives Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs during its enquiry into Aboriginal Health. In l987 she underook a study among refugees living in Sydney commissioned by the state Department of Health, which led to the establishment of STARTTS (the Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors) and was inaugural Chair of its Managment Committee. She chaired the National Review of Nursing Education in Australia in 1994 and was a member of the international team which reviewed the Australian Medical Council in 2013. 

 

She has been a member of the boards of the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission and Agency for Clinical Innovation, public agencies charged with promoting safety and quality in health care, and was the inaugural chair of the research committees of both.  She has been a member of the advisory council of St Vincent’s and the Mater Hospitals in New South Wales since 2013 and serves on the St Vincent's Health Australia Clinical Governance and Safety Committee.

In 2015 she became Chair of the Pacific Friends of the Global Fund.
